The company has designed and installed bespoke sound systems for churches of all denominations. The systems vary from small meeting rooms to large cathedrals and all clients receive the same high standard of support.

To date we have installed more than 200 church systems and we are still maintaining some systems that were installed more than 15-years ago.

In many cases churches have bands which require the addition of mixing desks that connect via professional power amplifiers to full range loudspeakers for improved quality reproduction of music. In addition some forward thinking churches also use computer technology which requires AV facilities for visual presentations.

In order to comply with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) churches are now always fitted with Induction Loop Systems for the hard of hearing. A free system design and consultancy service is available to all.

A list of existing church installation is available on request.

CASE STUDY: 1

Comrie Parish Church, Perthshire

Comrie Parish Church has its origins in mediaeval times. The present congregation occupies what was the second free church building to be erected in Comrie, dating from 1881. The church with its imposing steeple sits in a particularly attractive position on the banks of the river Earn. A major revamp of the church was undertaken during 2011 which includes a completely new electro-acoustic system. The church of Scotland employed the service of a well known acoustic consultant to design a system that would be unobtrusive while still performing to the highest standard.

The system included a single point source loudspeaker cluster arrangement that would be flown above the front of the chancer to cover the main sanctuary area and upper gallery. A competitive tender was issued to several selected specialist audio contractors and T. G. Baker (Sound) Ltd was appointed to carry out the work.

The complete system was supplied, installed and commissioned on time for the formal opening ceremony in May 2011. the electro-acoustic consultant was very pleased with the resulting system and complimented our engineering team for their first class workmanship and attention to detail.

St Andrews Cathedral, Glasgow

The metropolitan church of Saint Andrew is the Roman Catholic Cathedral in the city centre of Glasgow on the north bank of the river Clyde.

The cathedral is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Glasgow and is the seat of the archbishop of Glasgow. The cathedral opened in 1816.

A major restoration project began in 2009 as the cathedral has long been in need of major refurbishment. As part of the restoration process T. G. Baker (Sound) Ltd where commissioned to design and supply a sophisticated sound system that would cope with the specific requirements of the cathedral.

A series of acoustic models were produced to determine the type of loudspeakers that would be most suited to the building which is highly reverberant. It was decided that TOA SR-H3S small line array units with their excellent directivity would fit the bill.

A total of 24x SR-H3S units were installed and finished in a special RAL colour as specified by the architect to complement the beautiful interior décor of the nave and chancel areas.

The SR-H3S units are fitted to the main support pillars as cluster pairs throughout the nave and singly within the sanctuary area and entrance vestibule. A 12 channel mixing desk was also included to increase the input capability during special services.

Visitors to the cathedral have commented on the quality of the new sound system and the improvement in intelligibility.

T. G. Baker (Sound) Ltd are delighted to have been involved with the project.
