The requirements of shopping centres have evolved in recent years, from bell sounding alarms to Voice Alarm systems. Good intelligibility is essential to direct people to safety in an emergency.
Although the Voice Alarm is the most crucial part of a system, routine paging, advertising and background music are all important to the management. The environment has to be conductive to the purchasing of products.
T. G. Baker (Sound) Ltd has also been required to install the added feature of shutting down all background music systems, televisions, radios etc. in the individual shops to allow emergency evacuation messages to be transmitted to everyone in the shopping centre.
Assistance is provided for the hard of hearing through Induction Loop systems which transmit signals to hearing aids allowing audibly-impaired people to understand all of the Public Address and Voice Alarm announcements.

Every effort is made to ensure the safe evacuation of customers and employees alike.
The quality of our systems is recognised by many of the large nationwide stores, including Marks & Spencer, Debenhams, British Home Stores and Littlewoods, where the highest standards are demanded. T. G. Baker (Sound) Ltd installed and now services systems in over one hundred Safeway stores across the country.
One of our most recent projects has been the design and installation of a sound and communications system at Bluewater, a shopping and leisure complex in Dartford, Kent. The complex is one of the largest and most sophisticated leisure and retail centres in Europe, comprising of several kilometres of shopping malls.
The system is immense not only in size, but in complexity, with mood management of individual areas over and above the Public Address and Voice Alarm facilities.

Silverburn Shopping Centre in the south side of Glasgow is the city's newest shopping destination. The centre is open 7-day's a week and includes all of the usual high street brands with major names such as Marks & Spencer's, Debenhams and Tesco's.
We were involved from the initial design concept stage with the architect and consulting engineers. The centre was opened in a number of phases and we provided the main PA/VA system and Disabled Refuge system.
