The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh requires dependable communication across its busy clinical environment. TG Baker replaced the existing intercom system in its Accident & Emergency department with an IP networked solution, meeting the department’s immediate requirements while providing substantial capacity for expansion.
Advise
The project focused on replacing the department’s existing intercom provision. Alongside the immediate requirement, the replacement system offered an opportunity to establish a platform that could accommodate more intercom stations if the hospital chose to extend its use.
Plan
The solution was based on an IP networked architecture, with an initial configuration of 26 master stations. Its capacity to expand to more than 3,000 intercoms provided a clear route for wider deployment beyond the department.
Deliver
We replaced the existing Accident & Emergency intercom system with the new networked solution, comprising 26 master station intercoms. This established the department’s replacement communication system on a platform capable of supporting a much larger installation.
Support
The system’s expansion capacity gives the hospital flexibility to add further intercoms as requirements develop. The initial departmental installation can therefore form the basis of a wider hospital network, should that be required.
